Metacognition

I just found out that the F.C.C and F.B.I. want to have the ability to tap into internet whenever they'd like.

"A far-reaching proposal from the FBI, made public Friday, would require all broadband Internet providers, including cable modem and DSL companies, to rewire their networks to support easy wiretapping by police." http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/4515410/

So far let us see what the government has in their sights.
Radio Indecency: so far a couple of shows have been taken off the air
Network tv: I hope I don't have to actually mention what they are doing here
Cable t.v.: The FCC wants to regulate what is shown on cable television it's actually one of their goals
Satellite Radio: Clear Channel owns 30% of satellite radio the head honcho of clear channel is a Bush supporter and also dropped howard stern from six of their cities. The fcc will try and regulate satellite radio in the future
Internet: The link above will give new information on this but essentially they want to be able to tap the internet even though this will raise price on broadband and complicate deployment of new technology.

When will the people that blindly support Bush wake up and smell the coffee this is incredibly detrimental to the freedoms that we enjoy in the U.S.

I don't like eavesdropping, but I would happily accept regulations on the Internet. It's just too disgusting in its current form.

Its only going to get worse if we keep happily accepting their regulations don't you think?

I'm sure the patriot act will muscle in. One good thing that happened, though, is "Jesus" Stern has been outlawed.

What exactly is disgusting about the Internet? I guess the free flow of global information must really get on your nerves.

Absolutely. The power of the Internet, and the reason it has exploded in growth as it has, is its freedom from tampering by authority types.

Some people are afraid to rip the little tags off of matresses let alone stand up for their own rights...

Information is power to an informed electorate. We have people at this site, who not only support censorship here, they practice it themselves. You'll find some who say it can't be true because that would indicate a organized taking. That would be a conspiracy; a conspiracy can't be covered up; therefore it does not exist.

It comes from fear of truth, lack of control, and takes on many guises to come about. I once worked for a racist dutch siding company. This company always was vehemently seeking to form a association to pass legislation to make the application of siding a skilled labor requiring liscencing. They gave speeches about how they only wanted the best product for customers and to stop any fool who owned a pick-up and a ladder from getting to damage people's homes. In fact, they only wanted to corner the market for themselves and stop minorities from working in their field. In their minds, it was a noble undertaking to help. In fact it was immoral and anti-capitalist. Try to tell that to them though. They were only trying to help people in their minds.

Likewise, these intenet tamperers are certain they are doing right and want to help us. God save us from those who want to pass laws to help us censor ourselves. Solzhenitsyn once said, "No one can undertake an action without first believing it to be right." This is true, and by couching the censorship in terms of such guises, the government and those who want information control, achieve their goal of censorship and makes it appear noble.

If anyone has seen a site disappear and want information that was taken down, punch up http://web.archive.org/web/web.php. This is called the 'waybackmachine'and is able to isolate the entire web on any given day and replicate it for you. I have pulled out sites which were removed by this method and it does work pretty good.
