I was at the movie theater last night, where I went to go watch Kill Bill vol. 2 which unfortunately was sold out at 1:00 am. Due to the sell out I ended up watching Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind which I might add is a decent movie, but that is besides the point. I was watching the previews considering I arrived a little too early, and I saw a preview to a movie starring Mandy Moore titled Saved!. The movie basically was kind of a teen date movie but was about religion and I couldn't believe it. The movie preview was more offensive than ridiculous considering the scenes that included, yelling at each other for almost sleeping with someone, throwing bibles at each other and a priest that ends up hooking up with one of the actresses. It looked like one of those many teen movies like She's All That or like something recent such as The Girl Next Door. Although it seems harmless, in my head it begged to ask the question of whether religion has become trendy. I can't believe they are pitching and marketing Christianity as if it is a pop-culture trend. Will we see a rise in movies like this? If anyone watches this trailer they will see what I mean... I don't know whether this is negative or positive but I have never seen a movie like this...
